On Tuesday, May 19, Paul suffered a cardiac arrest while at work. Thanks to the quick actions of his colleagues, who immediately performed CPR until paramedics arrived, he was given a fighting chance. He was transported to James Cook University Hospital, where medical teams worked tirelessly to stabilize him.
Despite their efforts, Paul remained in a coma and tragically suffered severe brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. After careful consultation with doctors and faced with the heartbreaking reality that recovery was not possible, his loved ones made the incredibly difficult decision to remove life support.
In his final days, Paul was surrounded by love. His family and partner remained by his side, speaking to him, sharing memories, and expressing how deeply he was loved. Though expected to pass quickly, Paul continued to fight—reflecting the strength and spirit that defined him throughout his life.
He ultimately passed away peacefully, with the love of his life by his side, just before 10 a.m., bringing an end to a painful and emotional journey for those who cared for him.
